European Social Forum comes to London
by Democrat reporter
THE THIRD European Social Forum will be held in London on 15, 16 and 17 October 2004, with an opening session on 14 October.
The European Social Forum (ESF) is part of the World Social Forum (WSF). The WSF and ESF believe that ‘another world is possible’. This third European Social Forum follows gathering in Florence two years ago and Paris last year.
These events were attended by around 50,000 people from across Europe and worldwide. The ESF is a festival of hope; for global social justice and against neo–liberal globalisation. It is a unique gathering of social movements, trade unions, NGOs, campaigns and communities brought together to discuss a range of issues in plenaries, seminars and workshops .
The London event is in partnership with the Greater London Authority and is supported by the TUC, Amnesty International, CND, Unison, NAAR, the friends of Ireland and many others.
Irish community and campaigning groups have set up a group to provide an Irish dimension to the Forum. If you or your organisation/group would like to get involved or would like further information contact the
Connolly Association, tel: 020 7503 1273 or email:generalsecretary@connollyassociation.co.uk; or visit the ESF website on www.fse–esf.org
